Orange County Department of Education hosted the inaugural Father Fest that celebrated the power of fatherhood and mentorship! The event brought together experts and community leaders to share research, stories, and strategies to help men feel celebrated and supported. In the morning, the event featured a keynote speaker, breakout sessions, and meaningful resources for attendees.
First 5 OC supported the dynamic “Play Experience” session designed fathers and caregivers better understand the power of self-directed, open-ended play. Led by Jami Eyre, Program Specialist in Early Learning at the Orange County Department of Education, and Andrew Montejo, Program Officer at First 5 OC, the workshop invited participants to explore play as a pathway to mindfulness, stress reduction, and stronger connections with their children. The session also encouraged fathers to bring these strategies into their daily routines, reinforcing First 5 OC’s commitment to supporting families in building nurturing, developmentally rich environments for young children.
In the afternoon, attendees came together with their families for a backyard-style BBQ and festival featuring arts and crafts, games, reading corners, face painting, a photo booth, a chance to learn how to DJ, and more!
