Family Child Care

Are you ready to open or expand your family child care business but unsure where to begin with licensing?

This section helps Orange County’s future and expanding family child care providers understand the process, requirements, and responsibilities involved in obtaining and maintaining a child care license in California. It provides clear, updated guidance for Family Child Care (FCC) reflecting the most current state and local regulations. Because licensing requirements and forms occasionally change, providers are strongly encouraged to stay up to date by regularly checking the Community Care Licensing Division (CCLD) website and subscribing to the CCLD listserv for important updates, regulation changes, and statewide communications. https://cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/community-care-licensing/subscribe

The FCC section aligns with the expectations of the Community Care Licensing Division (CCLD) and supports those seeking to open a new program, renew or modify an existing license, or expand services to include infant and toddler care. There is guidance to the application process and compliance requirements specific to Orange County, including zoning approval, Fire Marshal clearance, health inspections, facility layout and square footage, outdoor space, hours of operation, adult–child ratios, public posting requirements, and ongoing regulatory oversight.
