Fingerprinting and Live Scan Process

All adults (18 years and older) living or working in the home must complete Live Scan fingerprinting using form LIC 9163. This digital process securely transmits fingerprints to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for a background check.

Licensing approval requires background clearances; however, it is important not to complete fingerprinting until after you receive your facility license number. Applicants must wait because the license number is required on the Live Scan form. Once your license arrives in the mail, CCLD will provide instructions on how to complete the fingerprinting process. At that time, all individuals who require background checks may proceed with Live Scan using the correct facility information.

To ensure accuracy, applicants should bring valid government-issued photo identification to the Live Scan appointment and confirm that the provider submits prints electronically. Once fingerprint results are processed, CCLD will notify the applicant of clearance or any next steps needed before licensure.
